Tasks

Library System Development Centre carries out the following basic tasks determined by the Librarianship Act:
  • collects, processes and transmits statistical and other data on the operation of libraries,
  • keeps register of libraries,
  • prepares professional background of documents for the adoption of general regulations and professional recommendations relating to librarianship,
  • coordinates specific activities of the central regional libraries.
It also advises libraries and delivers opinions on the library-related issues based on well-established professional positions, conducts research and development work in its field, and carries out the research and applied projects in the field of librarianship. It participates in continuing education of library workers and is responsible for the promotion of libraries and their activities. It coordinates library activities with the relevant ministries and other entities whose work has a crucial influence on library activities.
